Hotel hanseatin

an oasis exclusively for women

The hotel is nestled in the heart of Hamburg and neighbour to the Gängeviertel Quarter – an enclave for art, exhibitions, and music.

Our hotel is very much like a fine old house, a fine old house where we encourage our guests to feel at home. The vintage building is comprised of two adjoining houses, one build in 1790 and the other in 1820. The hotel, established in 1995, offering thirteen airy rooms over three floors. Each room imparts a distinct design conceived with painstaking care. Many rooms display original artwork from female artists and each room is fitted out with a small selection of books. An electric kettle is provided along with complimentary organic teas and instant coffee.

Combining creature comforts with contemporary resources, we cater to guests who appreciate a hotel where every room does not look alike.

Sundry amenities are listed on our room page.

FYI The Hanseatin is a non-smoking hotel with the exception of the garden.

Free WIFI is available throughout the hotel and the garden.

As a protected historical site, we are not permitted to install a lift.

You’ve arrived! Welcome to our house

It should come as no surprise that a women only hotel was the brainchild of to determined women. We envisioned a place to enjoy the unencumbered pleasure of an all-female environment. In 1995 the Frauenhotel Hanseatin opened its doors for the first time, ensconced in a rather quaint building which is a protected historic landmark. Women arrived with business to conduct or on a backpacking tour or with tickets for a John Neumeier ballet. They appreciated the value of the superb location of the hotel and its proximity to entertainment venues and public transport.

The hotel has wonderful neighbours; The Laeiszhalle (Concert Hall) – known in Hamburg as the elder sister of the Elbphilharmonie – is just across the street from the hotel and the Staatsoper (City Opera) is literally right down the street from the hotel.

A five-minute walk is all it takes to Planten un Blomen (plants and flowers) – a 47 hectare park boasting vast lawns, idyllic ponds and herb-gardens. Are you headed to the city-central Hamburger Hafen (Port of Hamburg)? Choose the route through another park, and in 25 minutes you will find yourself at Landungsbrücken (landing stages), where the Elbe river leads to the port and Hafen City in one direction and harbour tours and the HADAG steamers will take you to Finkenwerder, Övelgönne and Blankenese heading in the opposite direction along the river.

Hamburg tempts you with countless shopping possibilities. Start along the Jungfernstieg, you need about 10 minutes by foot to get there. The funkier shops- perhaps less exclusive but arguably no less creative and cutting edge- can also be found in the Karoviertel, Schanze and even St. Pauli.
